Dexrazoxane ( deks-ra-ZOK-sayn ) (Zinecard®, Totect ™ ) What is this medication used for? Dexrazoxane decreases the heart damage that can be caused by some chemotherapy drugs (anthracyclines such as doxorubicin).
• Allergic reaction (rash, itching, trouble breathing, chest pain, lightheadedness, or fast, uneven heartbeat) • Dizziness • Burning, numbness, or tingling at the injection site • Bleeding and/or easy bruising Special instructions: • Chemotherapy will be given immediately after completion of the IV infusion of dexrazoxane. • This drug may cause harm to an unborn child. Use effective contraception while receiving this medication. • This drug may cause infertility in men. Discuss this with a healthcare provider. • In utero exposure may cause fetal harm.

• Into the vein (IV) or venous access device What are the common side effects? • Lower blood counts • Pain at injection site or irritation of a vein • Feeling tired (fatigue, malaise) What are the less common side effects? • Mild nausea and vomiting • Diarrhea, constipation, or stomach (abdominal) pain • Temporary changes to liver function tests • Increase in triglycerides • Headache • Mouth irritation or sores What are the rare side effects?
