Aldesleukin ( all-dez-LOO-kin ) (Interleukin-2) What is this medication used for? Aldesleukin helps your body produce T cells, a type of white blood cell that helps to kill cancer cells.

• Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath that worsens when lying down, and wheezing (which can be caused by fluid leaking into the tissues or lungs) • Low levels of magnesium in the blood • Nausea and vomiting • Confusion • Mouth sores Special instructions: • This medicine may cause fluid to leak into the tissues or lungs, which can increase blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate. For this reason, frequent monitoring is necessary during and after this medicine is given. • Body weight may be checked every day to see if the body is retaining extra fluids. • When a lower dose of this medicine is used, it may be given at home. • Medicines such as acetaminophen, diphenhydramine, hydrocortisone, and others may be given before and during this treatment to help reduce some of the side effects.

• Into the vein (IV) or venous access device What are the common side effects? • Weight gain and swelling of the face, hands, or feet (may occur rapidly) • Low-grade fever • Low red blood cell or platelet counts (anemia, thrombocytopenia)

• Skin rash (moderate to severe) • Changes to liver function tests • Feeling restless • Diarrhea

• Flu-like symptoms, such as muscle pain or weakness, feeling tired (fatigue, malaise), joint pain, and shivering • Low blood pressure • Abnormal heart rate and rhythm • Drowsiness • Increased risk of infection What are the less common side effects?
