Caspofungin ( cas-poe-FUN-jin ) (Cancidas®) What is this medication used for? Caspofungin is used to prevent or treat fungal infections. It works by slowing the growth of fungi causing the infection.
• Severe dizziness • Cough • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), which may include rash, hives, difficulty breathing, wheezing, coughing, tightness in chest, and swelling of the mouth, lips, or tongue) • Severe skin peeling and swelling; blisters; and sores in the mouth, throat, eyes, or nose (rare; toxic epidermal necrolysis or Stevens-Johnson syndrome) Special instructions: • Patients taking caspofungin must be monitored for signs of allergic reaction. • Blood tests will be performed regularly to monitor liver function. • Inform your healthcare provider of all medications, vitamins, supplements, and herbal products being taken. • Consult a healthcare provider before becoming pregnant, fathering a child, or breastfeeding. • Chills • Fever • Rash • Headache What are the less common side effects? • Stomach (abdominal) pain, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting • Low blood pressure • Changes to liver function tests • Dark-colored urine • Feeling tired (fatigue) • Lack of appetite, • Light-colored stools • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice) • Severe headache
