Ursodiol ( er-so-DYE-all ) (Urso 250®, Urso Forte®, Actigall®) What is this medication used for? Ursodiol is used to treat or prevent gallstones. It works by decreasing the production of cholesterol and dissolving the cholesterol in bile to prevent gallstones and decrease toxic levels of bile acids.
What does it look like? • Capsule
Special instructions: • Store this medicine at room temperature in a dry place. • Tablets may be broken in half. • Take this medicine with food. • Do not take antacids within 2 hours before or after taking ursodiol. • Do not give two doses at the same time or extra doses.

• Allergic reaction, which may include rash; itching (pruritis); and red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin, with or without fever • Vomiting • Dizziness • Constipation or diarrhea • Back pain • Stomach (abdominal) pain or heartburn (indigestion) • Hair loss (alopecia) • Painful urination
