Propranolol ( pro-PRA-no-lawl ) (Hemangeol®, InnoPran XL®, Inderal®) How does this medicine work? Used to treat infantile hemangiomas by narrowing the blood vessels of the hemangioma and preventing new blood vessels from forming, but the exact mechanism is not known. It also is used to treat high blood pressure.
What does it look like? • Tablet • Liquid How is it given? • By mouth (oral or po)
Special instructions: • Blood pressure and heart rate may be checked after the first dose and with dose changes. • This medicine should be taken before or during a meal to prevent low blood sugar. • Notify your healthcare provider if diarrhea or vomiting occur. • If you do not remember if this medicine was taken, do not repeat the dose. Wait until the next scheduled dose. • If a dose was missed or forgotten, give the next dose on schedule. • Call your healthcare provider if more tiredness than usual or breathing difficulties are experienced. • Stopping medication suddenly can cause serious complications. Consult your healthcare provider for a plan to taper off the medication.
