Oxaliplatin ( oks-al-ih-PLA-tin ) (Eloxatin®, Dacplat®, Elplat®, Dacotin®) What is this medication used for? This medicine is used to treat colon or rectal cancer. It may be used to treat solid tumors such as neuroblastoma or non-Hodgkin lymphoma which have not responded to standard chemotherapy.

What does it look like? • Liquid How is it given?

Special instructions: • This medicine may cause an allergic reaction. Notify a healthcare provider of any shortness of breath, cough, wheezing, or hives during infusion. • Avoid drinking or eating anything cold; use a blanket during infusion; wear warm clothing, cover mouth and face during cold weather, wear gloves when using refrigerator until sensitivities are resolved.

• Into the vein (IV) or venous access device What are the common side effects? • Increased sensitivity to cold, which can cause jaw spasms; a tingling sensation or numbness in the mouth, throat, arms, and legs; or, rarely, shortness of breath • Stomach (abdominal) cramps or pain • Diarrhea • Mouth sores (mucositis) • Tiredness (fatigue) • Loss of appetite (anorexia) • Numbness and tingling in hands and feet (peripheral neuropathy) What are the less common side effects? • Headache • Constipation (hard stools) • Heartburn • Change in taste • Rash • Swelling or puffiness (edema) • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis; rare; may include hives, cough, wheezing, and shortness of breath) • Muscle tissue breakdown (rhabdomyolysis)

• Call a healthcare provider if diarrhea occurs • In utero exposure may cause fetal harm.
