Activated Prothrombin Complex Concentrate: Anti-Inhibitor Coagulant Complex ( an-TEE in-HI-bi-tor coe-AG-yoo-lant KOM-pleks ) (FEIBA) What is this medication used for?
This medicine works by fixing the damaged thrombin (a protein in the blood that causes the clotting of blood). It helps control spontaneous bleeding episodes or prevents bleeding episodes after surgery in patients with hemophilia A and B who have developed an antibody (inhibitor).
What does it look like? • Liquid solution How is it given?
Special instructions: • Infuse at a rate of no more than 2 units/kg/min. If the medicine is given too quickly, it can cause headaches, flushing, changes in blood pressure, or an increased heart rate. • The medicine should be stored at room temperature prior to reconstitution. After reconstitution, it should be stored at room temperature and used within 3 hours.
