Olanzapine ( oh-LANZ-a-peen ) (ZyPREXA, ZyPREXA Relprevv, ZyPREXA Zydis) What is this medication used for? This medicine is used to treat and prevent chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting.
What does it look like? • Tablet How is it given? • By mouth (oral or po) What are the common side effects? • Drowsiness • Dizziness • Dry mouth • Increased appetite • Low blood pressure (Hypotension) • Constipation • Hiccups
Special instructions: • May be taken at bedtime to prevent any increased sleepiness during the day. • May be taken with or without food • Contact health care provider right away for any unusual or uncontrolled muscle movements.
• Change in liver function tests (ALT) • Higher levels of fats in the blood What are the less common side effects? • High blood sugar • Seizures • Abnormal muscle movements, often in the face
