Hemlibra ( hem-libra ) (emicizumab-kxwh®) What is this medication used for?

Hemlibra is a bispecific antibody that is used to bind activated factor IX (factor 9) and factor X (factor 10) to help increase the potential for your blood to clot. It is used as routine prophylaxis to prevent or reduce the frequency of bleeding in patients with hemophilia A with or without factor VIII (factor 8) inhibitors.

What does it look like? • Liquid How is it given?

Special instructions: • A loading dose of this medication must be given weekly for the first 4 weeks of administration. It will be then followed by a maintenance dose. Maintenance dosing is based on provider preference and with consideration of a regimen that will increase patient adherence. • If a dose of Hemlibra is missed, administer it as soon as possible and then resume usual dosing schedule. Do not take two doses on the same day to make up for a missed dose. • This medication might interfere with other laboratory tests which evaluate blood clotting. You should let your health care provider know that you are on Hemlibra before having lab testing performed. .

• Into the skin (subcutaneously or subq) What are the common side effects? • Injection site reactions (redness, swelling, itching, or pain around the site of injection) • Headache • Joint pain or aching What are the less common side effects? • Thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) - a condition involving blot clots and injury to the small vessels that may cause harm to your kidneys, brain or other organs. • Blood clots – which may form in blood vessels in your arm, leg, lung, or head. Symptoms of blood clots or TMA include: • Confusion • Stomach, chest, or back pain • Weakness • Nausea or vomiting • Swelling, pain, or redness in arm or leg • Decreased urination • Eye pain, trouble seeing, or vision changes • Headache • Fast heart rate • Shortness of breath or coughing up blood • Breakthrough bleeding events – though rare, this could indicate a loss in efficacy of Hemlibra
