Glucarpidase ( gloo-KAR-pid-ase ) (Voraxaze®) What is this medication used for?

Glucarpidase is used to treat dangerously high levels of methotrexate in the blood and severe kidney damage during high-dose methotrexate infusions. It breaks methotrexate into two inactive metabolites and provides a pathway of elimination that does not further damage the kidneys.

• Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) • Severe dizziness or passing out (loss of consciousness) • Flushing, feeling hot • Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet (peripheral neuropathy) Special instructions: • Blood tests will be done to check kidney function and methotrexate levels.
