Fluconazole ( floo-CON-uh-zole ) (Diflucan®) What is this medication used for? Fluconazole helps to prevent or treat fungal infections called candidiasis, also known as thrush or yeast infection.
What does it look like? • Tablet • Liquid How is it given? • By mouth (oral or po)
Special instructions: • This medicine must be taken exactly as prescribed and continued for as long as the healthcare provider instructs. • A missed dose should be taken as soon as possible but should be skipped if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double dose. • Store the liquid suspension at room temperature, shake it well prior to each dose, and discard it after 14 days. • In utero exposure may cause fetal harm.
• Into the vein (IV) or venous access device What are the common side effects? • Nausea and vomiting • Skin rash • Stomach (abdominal) pain • Diarrhea • Change in taste What are the less common side effects? • Hives • Itching (pruritis) • Dizziness • Changes to liver function tests • Headaches • Abnormal heartbeat (prolonged QT interval)
