Micafungin ( my-cuh-FUN-jin ) (Mycamine®) What is this medication used for? This is an antifungal- medication is used to prevent or treat fungal infections.
What does it look like? • Liquid How is it given? • Into the vein (IV) or venous access device What are common side effects? • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach (abdominal) pain • Headache • Trouble sleeping (insomnia) • Irritation where this drug is given • Itching or skin rash What are less common side effects? • Allergic reaction, which may include an itchy, red, or swollen rash • Skin blisters or peeling, with or without a fever • • Rapid or abnormal heartbeat • Kidney dysfunction
Special instructions: • Micafungin is given once a day. • It may be used with other medicines to treat fungal infection. • Patients should tell their healthcare provider if they are taking Sirolimus or Nifedipine, because this may lead to increased drug levels or toxicity. • Notify your provider if you start any new medications while you are receiving Micafungin. • In utero exposure may cause fetal harm.

Instrucciones especiales • La micafungina se administra una vez al día. • Puede usarse con otros medicamentos para tratar infecciones fúngicas. • Los pacientes deben informar al profesional de la salud si están tomando sirolimus o nifedipino, ya que esto puede provocar un aumento de los niveles del fármaco o toxicidad. • Notifique al profesional de la salud si comienza a tomar algún medicamento nuevo mientras recibe micafungina. • La exposición intrauterina puede causar daño fetal.
