This valuable resource is the product of a partnership between APHON and the Children’s Oncology Group Nursing Discipline and provides important information for pediatric hematology/oncology nurses who are caring for critically and terminally ill children. Telephone Triage Guidelines: A Professional Resource for Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Stem Cell Transplant Nurses (2013; Reviewed in 2018)

We know that nurses are often the first line of contact for patients and families and are strategically positioned to impact the care provided. As the provision of healthcare shifts from inpatient to outpatient centers, the role of the telephone triage nurse has evolved and is a critical component of pediatric hematology/oncology nursing. The Telephone Triage Guidelines will go a long way toward promoting safe quality care, minimizing organizational risk, and ensuring a mechanism for nursing support and professional development.
